FastSearch is only for Windows. Microsoft will leave Unix and Linux

Microsoft is going to stop offering Linux or Unix versions of its search solution for the corporate world, after a few updatesFastSearch provided by the first half of questa’nno. Microsoft, in 2008 when it acquired Fast Search &Transfer, saying he wants to update the stand alone version for Linux in the enterprise search platform developed by the company: this is the case for a couple of years to follow. But the products that will be launched this year will be the last to have within them a core of research compatible with Unix and Linux.

The focus of research for specialized product companies will be solely on Windows, but this will require a number of important and perhaps complex change for companies that have already taken over time FastSearch. But Microsoft says that will still be interoperable with non-Windows systems in both front end and the back end. The search will operate and index content stored on Windows, Unix and Linux.

A new version, 5.3, ESP will also bring to fruition some options that also include hosted solutions or cloud based services that allow the use of a mixed solution.
