Presented by the end of last year , Sony announced today the exit to the sale of its Digital Photo Frame Sony DPF-WA700, which has joined the growing family of devices S-Frame. The main feature of the device is the WiFi connectivity.
Without the need for a computer, the new framework of Sony can download content from our mobile phone through wireless connectivity for viewing on the LCD (LED) of seven inches, which is also touch.
The digital frame can play video (AVCHD and MP4) and images in high definition, always bearing in mind that the maximum resolution the screen is 800 × 480 pixels (WVGA), a figure quite short if we consider as have advanced screens of this size in the world of tablets.
You can check the operation of the device in the following video, which is in Japanese though, it is easy to follow, and gives us an idea of the possibilities of WA700:
Radio, social networks and weather
As alternatives to the time and introduce content, has support for memory cards (SD, SDHC, SDXC Memory Card and Memory Stick PRO Duo), which extend the gig of internal memory. We also have the ability to synchronize content from social networks like Facebook, Sony PlayMemories, or even send them via email.
Thanks to its connectivity, it also allows us to have updates pending weather, to show us on the display through software forecast from AccuWeather.com.
The last functionality we wanted to tell you is the ability to listen to the radio through the Internet and the frame incorporates speaker designed to reproduce the sound in 360 degrees.
The Sony DPF-WA700 framework has just appeared in the U.S. and Japan, at a price of $ 160. We will be watching for information on its European release.
Better a tablet?
It may be time to assess the interest in these devices, taking into account the price at which they are putting in tablets, with better specifications: higher resolution, capacitive screens and modern technology, or more processor power for new possibilities.
Nor usually have a proper ergonomics to have the device in hand, and despite interesting features include a digital photo frame of this kind can never reach the possibilities offered by an operating system upgradeable with web browser or applications.
It is clear that Sony is designed and presented in a great way to put it on a table in a room, but it is something that can easily be solved with a dock for a tablet. Also keep in mind that the digital frame has no battery and should have it connected to the light. What do you think?
